Why do some teeth need to be removed?

A Tooth extraction can be carried out for a number of reasons. These include severe gum disease, serious tooth decay or a broken tooth that is beyond repair. Also, a patient may require extractions for orthodontic or cosmetic reasons.
Before the procedure begins, our Specialist Oral Surgeon or our very experienced tooth extraction dentist will inject a local anaesthetic into the appropriate area, therefore patients can rest assured that they will not feel any pain throughout.
During the tooth procedure, there will be some pushing and pulling of the tooth but there will be no pain involved as the area will be profoundly numbed.
Badly broken teeth may require a surgical extraction. Patients may receive sutures or a piece of soft padding to stop the bleeding after tooth extractions.
We usually recommend a period of rest for a few days after complex tooth extractions.

Wisdom tooth extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is often required when the tooth has grown at an angle as a result of a lack of room left in the back of the mouth when they begin to emerge. However, not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. We can advise you on the best course of action for your wisdom tooth.
If a wisdom tooth has not come fully through but needs to be removed due to recurrent infection, a minor surgical procedure will be performed to remove the tooth. Once again the area will be profoundly anaesthetised, so no pain will be involved.
